CALDER Valley runner Jo Waites fully justified her England selection for the Snowdon International mountain race held on Saturday.
The 10 mile route starts at Lake Padern in Llanberis and after a short road section climbs to the summit of Snowdon, the highest mountain in England and Wales.

On arguably the hottest day of the year so far, several runners did suffer through dehydration,no such problems for the Blackshaw Head-based PE teacher on her international debut as she reached the summit in 55 minutes and then took only 30 minutes on the descent back down into Llanberis.

Andi Jones (Salford) was race winner in a time of 01.06.02. The England ladies team took gold medal position, thanks to the efforts of Waites (01.25.20) and her two Lancashire based team mates Katie Ingram (01.20.44) and Olivia Walwyn (01.24.28).

Also after her win in the Kentmere race recently fellow Calder Valley member Helen Fines is in 1st position in the ladies English Championship table.
