The penultimate British Championship fell race was held on Saturday at Borrowdale, near Keswick in the Lake District.
One of the toughest races in the calendar at 17 miles and with 6500ft of climbing, which includes the highest mountain in England,Scafell Pike.

Two other tough climbs,Great Gable and Dale Head are both encountered in the second half of the race.

Torrential rain overnight on Friday meant the course was wet and slippery underfoot, although the rain did hold off for the duration of the race.

On Great Gable however the mist was down causing navigation problems for a large number of runners, and with a four and a half hour cut-off at Honister this caused a number of runners to be timed out of the race.

Race winner was Simon Booth from the local Borrowdale club in a time of 2.49.50. Amongst the Calder Valley contingent were notable performances from Karl Gray, back after a short injury lay-off, to finish in 11th position in 3.06.06, Adam Breaks grabbed 25th spot in 3.17.26 and not far behind in 29th position was Shaun Godsman who clocked 3.22.28.

In a field approaching 500, the consistent Helen Fines was sixth lady and 99th overall in 3.43.21.

The last race in the series will be held at Dufton, in the former county of Westmorland, at the end of August, where Calder Valley ladies team should clinch first place in the series.

Other Calder Valley finishers were: Jason Stevens 71st place in 3.38.40, Jonathan Moore 134th in 3.58.08, Anne Johnson 136th in 3.58.28, 189th Rob Sharratt in 4.10.44, 236th Martin Huddleston in 4.27.32, 327th Celia Mills in 4.49.28, 344th Jackie Scarf in 4.56.16, 358th Allan Greenwood in 5.05.40, 372nd Stewart Gardner in 5.11.00, 375th Thirza Hyde in 5.14.40, 379th John Nunn in 5.20.18, 394th Tony Steward in 5.30.56, 399th Joanna Porter in 5.31.38, 400th Darren Sugden 5.31.39, 409th Dave Beston in 5.40.03.
